China as Seen from the Car Window

I took a lot of pictures on the way from school to the hotel today to show you the China I see every day. I have commented on a few, but mostly, look at them and see what I see. There are over 100 pictures in this set, so feel free to ignore all the words and scroll through the pictures. This is very typical of older residential construction in China. All reinforced concrete, all very densely packed. It is very common to have retail on the first floor, as many of the subsequent pictures show. Seeing clothes hung out to dry is also very common.

Various modes of transportation are available, and two are in this picture. There is a bus stop behind the taxi, and there are also trolleys and a subway here in Dalian. This might or might not be a Chinese version of Kennywood. Definitively a park, not sure about the amusement part. In the far background in the center of this picture you can see the double-deck suspension bridge that connects the two parts of Dalian across a bay. KFC is also here, i think they were the first American fast food chain to invade China.

This is a very common sight, there are people all over sweeping up the streets of China. No parking restrictions on the first and third Wednesday of the month for street sweeping, it happens every day. Notice also the tower crane in the background, they are everywhere, as China is building everywhere. I cannot count the number of high-rise construction projects currently underway in Dalian, let alone all of China. High-rise construction is everywhere, as many of these pictures show. We have noticed that there are often three of the same building constructed in the same place, side-by- side.

How about a high-voltage transmission tower right in the middle of the city? Probably this was not the middle of the city when the transmission line went in.

It is not unusual for cars to park on the sidewalk.

Home sweet home for three more weeks!
